"Candids" would most likely fall into a category sometimes referred to as "snapshots",
simply meaning someone with a camera, pointing and shooting,
paying no attention to the technical requirements of "Photography".
"Photography", on the other hand, requires an intimate understanding of subject matter,
a technical knowledge of the equipment involved,
lighting [ environmental or studio ], instinct, savvy and much more.
Technicalities aside, a "first rate candid" is better than a "second rate photograph"! LOL!
